Xi’an

Xi’an was unexpected delight and it was a complete contrast to Beijing.

Beijing didn’t really have much going on publically to celebrate the Chinese New Year but Xi’an went all out.  This unique city has a wall of their own that surrounds the center of the city.  Over centuries the wall has been damaged, restored, and expanded to its current state.  This rectangular wall stands 12m tall, 12-14m wide and you can walk or ride a bicycle around the full 13.7 kilometer distance.

Xi’an is known not just for the wall but also for delicious food and a vibrant night life.  This city really comes alive at night and especially during Chinese New Year when all sorts of colorful illuminated decorations adorned the south wall but the main reason I came to Xi’an was for a couple scenic areas outside the city...
