One of Xi’an’s famous tourist destinations is the Terracotta Warriors but this ended up being a complete waste of money. Clement, a traveler from France left with me on the subway to get to the train station to catch a bus. We were trying to meet up with two Spanish girls but the detail the girls didn’t tell us was that we had to go to the Xi’an Railway Station, not the Xi’an ‘North’ Railway Station so they left without us. After a few bus rides and an hour and a half of following very misleading directions from locals, we finally found the bus to take us to the Terracotta warriors.
When we got to the main exhibit hall where the warriors are, all you could really do was try your best to stay upright as the crowd pulsed in waves towards the railing. We eventually made it close enough to the railing to take a picture while holding our cameras way above the heads of the Chinese people.
It’s nice to be tall sometimes but the downside of being tall in a country of short people is that you hit your head on things constantly. After snapping a couple quick pics, we were pushed deeper into the mass of bodies as more people slammed in from the entrance. We were both exhausted of the crowds and lines and left an hour and a half after stepping off the bus. That was easily the densest crowd I’ve ever been in…. until the next day.
