Kampot is famous for its pepper farms but I really just came for waterfalls. I didn’t know the exact name of the waterfall I was recommended to visit so I decided to just go check out all of them but, of the six waterfalls I visited, only two had any sort of water flow. Riding through the banana plantations leading up to the waterfalls was nice though.
May is the beginning of the rainy season in Cambodia and there hasn’t been much rainfall yet so rivers are mostly dried up at the moment. Based on the large rocks in all the dried rivers, these rivers and waterfalls would be impressive after a summer of rain.
I was originally planning to head northwest from Kampot to a jungle area for hiking but I read that the forests have significantly receded in recent years due to heavy logging in the area. Instead, I backtracked to Phnom Penh and caught a second bus to the far Northeast corner of the country to a town called Banlung.
